Juan Li was born in Havana, Cuba in 1946. In 1970 he received a diploma on Ancient Chinese History from Brooklyn College in New York with the presentation of a study on the influence of the I Ching on the formation of Chinese culture. His studies continued in Zurich, Switzerland, at the Carl Jung Institute where he studied the principle of synchronicity outlined by Carl Jung.

From 1972 to 1978 he resided in Nepal where he was introduced to yoga practices by a variety of Indian and Tibetan teachers. For over a period of seven years, he studied as well with Sik Ho Chu who taught him two styles of Tai Chi and one of Kung Fu.

In 1982 Juan Li met Mantak Chia who introduced him to the Daoist internal energy practices. He is one of his first students. He co-wrote and illustrated with Jampa Mackenzie Stewart and under the supervision of Mantak Chia the book The Inner Structure of Tai Chi. He illustrated numerous books of Mantak Chia and created a set of posters demonstrating the practices. He began teachings in numerous countries of Europe.

Based on his personal practice and his teaching, Juan Li has been developing the I Ching Dao system. It is a sequence of practices adapted to the requirements of modern living, which facilitates the development of consciousness through what the Daoists call the opening of the three caldrons. It uses the I Ching as a guide for the practices.

Juan Li currently lives in Spain and teaches the I Ching Dao system in several countries in Europe.
